Union Budget 2012-13: An Ode to Neoliberalism

At first sight, it appears that the Union Budget 2012-13 presented by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, on March 16, lacks anything indicating a significant move in any direction. Appearances however can be deceptive. A careful examination of the budget would reveal that it reflects the clear continuation of the return to fiscal conservatism - a key integral element of the neoliberal doctrine - after its limited temporary suspension in the wake of the global crisis.
