Pragoti commemorates the 92^nd anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution by presenting before its readers an eye-witness account by Anatoly Lunacharsky and a film clip from Eisenstein’s October. After the bourgeois revolution in February, a second proletarian revolution began in the month of October in the Russian calendar when Lenin and the Bolshevik Party appealed to workers and soldiers, organised in the Soviets, to overthrow the new regime of war, imperialism and private property in the face of mounting repression and establish a worker’s state. On 7 November 1917, the bourgeois provisional government led by Kerensky was overthrown and a novel experiment in the history of workers’ democracy began. Despite the setbacks and the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union, the Bolshevik Revolution marked the first triumph of people’s power and can never be surpassed as an epoch-making event of immense joy and hope in the midst of capitalist war, genocide, hunger and empire-building.
