In the last few days, Pragoti has highlighted the ongoing debates within the Left student movement in JNU, particularly noting the political-organisational perspectives from a vibrant left student community in JNU that raises important questions and issues concerning the Left-democratic movement in general. In this context, the latest resolution passed by SFI-JNU is an addition to the ongoing debate. 
  

A Report from the Quebec Student Strike

"A conflict between students and the government over a tuition increase has exploded into social revolt. Montreal, Quebec’s metropolis, is covered in red squares, the symbol of the striking students, which can be seen pinned lapels, draped over balconies, or glued to windows and public signs. The students have helped break the perception that there is no alternative to neoliberalism and broke the establishment’s stranglehold on public discourse" says Lazar Konforti.

"They Say Cut Back; We Say Fight Back"

‘They say cut back; we say fight back’: this was the slogan echoing all over United Kingdom for the last three months, where the right-wing Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government hiked the home tuition fees for undergraduate students from £3000 to around £9000. This rise was the result of funding cuts imposed over different sectors, including education, in compensation for the 'recession disasters' happened to the country's economy.

Papers Presented in All India Convention on Education, JNU

The SFI organized a two day long All India Convention on Education in JNU. In the convention, the All India leadership of SFI presented various approach papers on various aspects of education. Also, many distinguished intellectuals presented papers enumerating the anti-student policies of the government, suggesting ways for a democratization of the education sector in India. Based on these papers and discussions amongst the delegates in the Convention, a Charter of Demand was adopted, concretizing the demands for the forthcoming struggles.
