The Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Karnataka, held a four-day delegation against the callous and consistently anti-people policies of the State and Central Governments. This dharna, which mobilised workers from across the State, focussed on several critical issues that affect the working class – wages, price rise and inflation. Workers from trade unions, affiliated to the CITU, from across the State participated in the dharna.
A far cry from the din, the expensive multimedia publicity campaigns and the narrow outlook of Anna Hazare's anti-corruption brigade, was a grassroots-level campaign against 'corruption and price rise' in Karnataka. A State, where the shrill anti-corruption cries by the saffron brigade falls flat on its face given the large-scale corruption charges that many members of the ruling BJP government face, the issue of corruption indeed resonates deeply with its people.

The Left parties held a massive rally against price rise in the capital on 12th March 2010. This rally was attended by over 1 lakh people from various parts of the country. The rally gave a call for intensifying struggles against the UPA Government's anti-people policies. The mainstream media as usual decided to give as little coverage as possible to the rally. That food prices have broken the ceiling and have gone beyond control, is a tragedy that is affecting many sections of the Indian population today. Yet the government has only compounded the misery by increasing fuel prices as well.
