The recent comments by noted play writer, actor and theatrist Girish Karnad on V.S. Naipaul have generated the ‘needed’ debate rather controversy. I am calling it ‘debate’ and not controversy due to several reasons. Engagement with any author is an issue of ‘debate’ not controversy. Controversy occurs due to an impeccable belief in immortality of her/him and occurrence of disturbance therein whereas debate is worldly engagement. It is very much corporeal. Therefore, debate around any author is much desired an exercise and must take place often.
