 I wrote two articles, one for the Students' Struggle and another, an editorial for my employer on the happenings vis-a-vis coalitions before the elections. The argument being made is that the Congress' very DNA precludes a cohesive UPA before the elections, while the BJP's allies' realisation of the negative returns of association with aggressive Hindutva party as also the grave economic situation that the country is faced with today, has seen them adopt new strategies - one of which is to align with the Third Front.

Nevertheless, the emerging leads through the investigations of the Malegaon blasts case give another opportunity to the Left to forcefully combat the ‘Hindutva-Fascist forces’ in this 'war of position'.

With the shock and trauma of the serial bombings in Delhi yet to wear off, we are distressed to see the manner in which elements of the saffron brigade are seeking to make political capital out of a national tragedy by pushing for a special law on terrorism. We are struck by the irony that the saffron brigade is concurrently orchestrating a mass campaign of bigotry and lawlessness that began in Orissa and has now spread to Karnataka and even threatens hitherto tolerant and peaceful Kerala.
