New Delhi, January 7: The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) has called upon the Karnataka government to end the continued harassment and arrest of B.V. Seetaram, editor of an evening daily Karavali Ale in Udupi district of Karnataka and has called upon its members to be ready for Black day at short notice, if remedial action is not taken immediately.
A press statement issued by the DUJ president S.K. Pande and its Media Ethics Council states: 'what is more shocking is that a senior journalist, editor was brought to court handcuffed in connection with a defamation case. We have a right to be informed about all details and demand immediate action against the police and other big wigs allegedly involved. If supreme court guidelines have been violated all including the police should be ready to face contempt' the statement added.
According to the DUJ, the editor of Karavali Ale, was arrested while travelling with his wife without even an arrest warrant. There are also reports the DUJ said, that some jingoistic forces were even preventing the distribution of his newspaper.
