Pragoti condemns these shameless attacks on innocent citizens and foreign tourists.

Yet another dastardly terrorist attack on Mumbai has taken place. This time, it has featured terrorist firing in public places (the nerve centre - CST and other places in south Mumbai), hostage taking in big hotels such as the Taj and the Trident, and grenade attacks on security forces trying to salvage the situation. More than 100 people are reported to be killed and many others injured, as this set of attacks seem to have been methodically planned, calculated to destroy the amity in the city. This set of attacks follows incidents such as bomb blasts in select public places in the city in the near past- all prior attempts to destroy the harmony in the city and which were foiled by the collective endeavour of the citizens.

Pragoti condemns these shameless attacks on innocent citizens and foreign tourists and calls upon the authorities in charge of law and order to provide justice to the victims of these attacks. Pragoti demands an immediate and rigorous probe into how an attack of this dastardly nature was carried out impudently in a city which had already been provided terrorist attack alerts. It is time also to mobilise people against terrorists of all hues, break the backbone of their networks by co-ordinated intelligence action of the law and order agencies and by re-affirming the secular credentials of the nation-state.

In spite of repeated attacks in different parts of the country, the central government in its response so far has failed to address the basis of terrorism politically. Pragoti demands that the central government should recognize the political basis of the situation and act accordingly.

Pragoti calls upon the resilient people of Mumbai to once again defeat the move to destroy the secular fabric in the city. Pragoti also condoles the death of serving police officials who lost their lives in the line of duty- Anti-Terrorism squad chief Hemant Karkare in particular.

On Terrorist Strike in Mumbai

New Delhi, November 27: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its deep shock and outrage at the multiple attacks in Mumbai city which have led to the loss of more than a hundred lives and injuries to many. These attacks targeting a railway station, hotels and other places by groups of heavily armed men accompanied by explosions, bear the hallmark of a carefully planned terrorist strike.

Condemn the Occupation too

Hear, Hear. I am sure all sane people from all ethnic backgrounds and religious groupings condemn the appalling atrocities in Mumbai.

It is very disappointing though that the Pragoti continues to endorse the brutal occupation of Kashmir. The murders, rapes, and atrocities committed by the Indian state must be condemned. Moreover, the occupation is wrong and you should condemn it unequivocally. Especially if you are to be taken seriously with respect to your opposition to communalism.

You should seriously be ashamed of yourselves for pandering to jingoistic bourgeois nationalism and its support for occupation. Shame on you, Pragoti.

I hope you can publish my comments as you do claim to be a freedom speech website.

thank you

please, no ifs and buts in condemning terrorism

abdul seems to be arguing that the "occupation" of Kashmir has some cause-effect relationship with the Mumbai terror attacks. i do not think it is so simple. what explains the terrorist attacks within Pakistan? in any case, the killing of innocent persons in Mumbai should be condemned unequivocally. without ifs and buts. there is no reason why one has to condemn every injustice happening across the world, while condemning a ruthless terrorist attack.
